Trex Protect is a self-adhesive butyl tape that caps the top of joists, beams, and rim joists, the surfaces where water and ice collect and screws let moisture in. It sheds water, and each screw is sealed as it passes through the tape, which improves holding power and helps prevent screw pop. Unlike asphalt tape, butyl won’t streak or peel and curl over time.

Applied as a cap rather than a wrap, it leaves the sides and bottom of the framing open to ventilate and dry, and it acts as a barrier between treated lumber and galvanized metal such as joist hangers. The peel-and-stick tape cuts with a utility knife or scissors, and its non-skid surface gives safer footing while you build. Every width comes in a 50' roll, so dividing your total framing length by 50 gives you the number of rolls to order.

What is Trex Protect joist tape used for?
Trex Protect is a self-adhesive butyl tape that caps the top of deck joists, beams, and rim joists. It sheds water and ice and seals around screws, helping protect the framing from the moisture that leads to rot and decay.

Which width of Trex Protect tape do I need?
Use the 1-5/8" Joist Tape on single joists and the 3-1/8" Beam Tape on double joists and beams. The 11" Rim Tape is for rim joists, stairs, and flat-blocked surfaces. Every width comes in a 50' roll.

Should I wrap the joist or just tape the top?
Apply it as a cap on top of the framing rather than wrapping it. That covers the surface where water collects and screws enter, and it leaves the sides and bottom of the joist open to dry.

Does joist tape stop screw pop?
The tape seals each screw as it passes through the membrane, keeping water and ice away from the fastener. That improves holding power and helps prevent screw pop.

Can I use Trex Protect with any decking brand?
Yes. It works on any joist material and with any brand of decking. It isn’t compatible with the Trex RainEscape deck drainage system.

For LTL Freight (Common Carrier) Items:

We use LTL freight for safe and efficient delivery. Your order will be scheduled for delivery, and it's important to note that for decking deliveries, a homeowner needs to be on hand to unload the product. This ensures a smooth and hassle-free delivery process. Rest assured, we're here to make the process as convenient as possible for you.

Order Packed and Shipped, Watch for Our Email:
Once our team has meticulously packed your order onto a pallet for safe shipment, we're on the move. You can expect an email notification as your order leaves our facility, keeping you in the loop right from the start.
Coordinate Your Delivery Time:

You have a few options when it comes to semi truck delivery, which are hand unload (the standard delivery), liftgate, and flatbed/forklift. If you’re looking for something other than hand unload, please let us know at the time you schedule your delivery.
