Wired or solar?

Two ways to power deck lighting. Wired low-voltage gives you brighter, longer-lasting fixtures with a transformer plugged into a regular outlet. Solar requires no wiring and runs on the sun, but the lights are softer and last fewer years.

Wired connections are generally more reliable over time, but are much more labor intensive for install than solar options. If adding touches to a completed deck solar lightng is recommended.

Wired or Solar?

Feature Wired (Low-Voltage) Solar
Brightness Bright and consistent Soft and ambient
Lifespan Long-lasting Shorter, battery-dependent
Install Effort Moderate (transformer + wiring) Easy (just place and go)
Cost Higher upfront Lower upfront
Best for Permanent, polished installations Renters, accent spots, no-wire zones

Most decks combine both styles based on placement and use.
