This version of Starborn's Clip&Rip Universal Hidden Deck Clip is built specifically for decks with a metal substructure, where the standard clip's screw isn't designed to penetrate steel framing. It uses the same one-pass fastening method as the standard system — insert the clip strip into the board groove, drive the screw, snap off the used clips, and slide the next board into place — but is fitted with a grade 410 stainless steel screw featuring a sharp drill point engineered to bite into and thread through steel framing without a pilot hole.
The 410 stainless screw carries an epoxy coating for corrosion resistance, an extra-deep star drive recess to prevent cam-out during the drill, and an undercut head designed to cut cleanly through the hard capstock layer of composite decking rather than tearing or mushrooming it. Compression tabs on each clip bite down to keep it level for the next board, and the system creates a consistent 3/16" gap automatically. Compatible with most major grooved composite, PVC, and hardwood decking brands over metal framing, including Trex, TimberTech/AZEK, Fiberon, Deckorators, and MoistureShield. Clips come pre-assembled on collated strips of 16, enough to fasten a full 20-foot board with a single strip. Do not use with an impact driver.
