Product Description

+

G-Tape is a self-adhering acrylic flashing tape that creates a permanent, waterproof barrier on deck joists, beams, ledger boards, and posts — protecting your deck's substructure from rot, decay, and moisture damage for the life of the build.

Unlike butyl flashing tapes, which come as sticky, hard-to-handle black goo prone to sticking to themselves in the roll, G-Tape uses an acrylic adhesive that tears cleanly by hand, repositions without leaving residue during installation, and doesn't stick to itself — so unused portions aren't wasted. The adhesive carries a negative charge that's drawn to steel fasteners, letting it seep into the wood grain around nails and screws to seal out water completely.

Why G-Tape Outperforms Standard Joist Tape

  • Acrylic adhesive vs. butyl: cleaner handling, no residue, no self-sticking in the roll
  • Sticks and performs from -40°F to 200°F — reliable in extreme climates
  • Cures to a permanent bond in 24 hours; fully repositionable before that
  • Independent 50-year aging tests show over 60% retained adhesion and 100% retained tensile strength
  • Compatible with wood, metal, composite, and plastic surfaces
  • Meets AAMA 711-13 Type A (no-primer) and AC 148 compliance standards

Available Sizes (all 65' rolls)

  • 2" x 65' — 3035BK, without liner
  • 4" x 65' — 3035BK, without liner
  • 6" x 65' — 3040BK, with liner
  • 9" x 65' — 3040BK, with liner
  • 12" x 65' — 3040BK, with liner

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between G-Tape 3035BK and 3040BK?
The 3035BK sizes (2" and 4") ship liner-free for easier handling, while the 3040BK sizes (6", 9", 12") include a liner. Both use the same acrylic adhesive formula.

How much G-Tape do I need for my deck?
Measure the total linear footage of joists, beams, and ledger boards you're covering, then add roughly 5-10% for overlaps and waste. Each roll covers 65 linear feet.

Is joist tape necessary, or is it optional?
Joist tape isn't code-required in most jurisdictions, but it's widely recommended by decking manufacturers (including Trex and TimberTech) to protect the top of joists from standing water — the leading cause of premature joist rot.

Does G-Tape work in cold climates?
Yes — G-Tape is rated to bond and perform in temperatures as low as -40°F, making it suitable for winter installation and cold-weather regions.

How is G-Tape different from butyl deck tape?
Butyl tapes are thicker, messier to handle, and tend to stick to themselves in the roll. G-Tape's acrylic formula tears cleanly by hand, repositions without residue, and doesn't self-adhere in storage.

High-performance G-Tape seals and protects deck joists and surfaces, preventing moisture intrusion while providing a clean, professional installation finish.
