The FastenMaster Collated Cortex Hidden Fastening System is the fastest way to fully conceal fasteners across a Trex composite deck — including the first and last boards, breaker boards, perimeter, and stairs, areas where many other hidden-fastener systems can't reach. Cortex plugs are cut directly from actual Trex deck boards, so the color and grain match exactly, and once installed, the plugs expand and contract along with the surrounding decking, meaning they're built to last the lifetime of the deck without needing replacement.
Installation uses a TORX ttap drive system paired with a high-strength setting tool: drive the Cortex screw with the included setting tool to countersink it at the perfect depth, then place the color-matched plug over the fastener hole with the grain aligned and tap it into place. Plugs come pre-aligned on collated strips rather than loose, which speeds up handling and installation by roughly 50% compared to individual plugs, and no pre-drilling is required. Each box covers 100 linear feet and includes 224 epoxy-coated carbon steel 2-1/2" screws, 240 collated plugs, and 2 Cortex setting tools; the container lid doubles as a spacer template to gap boards at 3/16" consistently. Available in colors matching Trex Transcend, Select, and Enhance decking lines. Note: impact drivers are not recommended for composite decking, with or without capstock.
